I am a wedding photographer and have photographed a few weddings at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, most recently in September 2023. This is such a stunning venue to work at! The venue is located right on State Street so it’s easy to walk up to the Capitol or along the street for exciting photos. The glass staircase is filled with natural light and becomes an amazing backdrop for photos. The rooftop sculpture garden is a great location for an outdoor ceremony with views of the Capitol and State Street. The venue staff is excellent to work with. There were several options of areas for the wedding party to get ready, to have the reception dinner, and to have cocktail hour. I would definitely recommend booking your wedding ceremony and reception here!
This museum was filled to the brim with beautiful and interesting pieces. I appreciated their involvement in the community; we visited during the student art show. The museum curators and educators were extremely thoughtful in the different resources they had available to view the artwork. I loved looking closely through the magnifying glass at all of the different works on display; it made me feel like a kid. While I also loved the video installations, as an educator I think it may be helpful to have larger signage about what content is visible in each room. I noticed a few kids walk into a rather explicit video game simulation. That said, that’s also on the parents.
Fancy building hosting an interesting array of exhibits. No tickets needed to enter, so visit whenever and as often as you like! (Donations encouraged.) Depending on when you go some of the exhibit spaces may be closed or a little sparse, so frequent quick visits would be the best way to go!
An amazing free museum. The contemporary Art is well displayed with some breathtakingly interesting art. Additionally the rooftop gives an amazing view of downtown Madison. The statues on the rooftop are also wonderful. The staff is very helpful and the museum was well taken care of. This definitely worth a visit if you are in downtown Madison.
What a treat, and no fee to boot! The AI interactive experience was interesting. Love the rooftop sculptures. Even the architecture of the space was impactful. Highly recommend.
Current exhibit is what I expect in contemporary art. The detail work and great imagination is exquisite. Go see it the next time you are on State St. You will not be sorry.
I recently visited Madison from the Chicago suburbs for a concert with my daughter. The next day we decided to check out the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. While it wasn’t what I expected, I was pleasantly surprised. I LOVED the Young at Art exhibit. I can’t even imagine how it would feel to be a child and have art displayed in a museum!! What an absolutely wonderful thing! It was my first time visiting Madison. The employees were very pleasant and helpful. Attached are some photos of my favorite pieces.
This place is free & filled with amazing art! I absolutely love this place and will go back again soon!
